Holistic Wellness

Holistic wellness may well sound like a grand title and for some a little vague. However, it really has a simple meaning.

Wellness covers all the aspects of how you feel up to the point of developing measurable symptoms of disease or illness as measured by conventional medicine. In other words you may not feel well but a doctor can not measure a problem using for example, blood chemistry limits. You do not have a health problem but you may feel terrible.

Holistic implies that your wellness is being addressed with consideration for all the body systems that might affect how well you feel. A simple example is how hay fever and many other allergies are dealt with by a typical GP. Rather than curing the problem they typically seek to give you drugs or nose sprays to suppress your bodies reaction to pollen. However, the underlying lifestyle and immune system problems are not dealt with. In an holistic wellness approach they are.

What I find sad is that historically many cultures used (and still use) an holistic approach to both wellness and health (e.g. Chinese medicine) but many areas of western medicine now  ignore this. We have medical specialists in parts of the body rather than how the whole body and all its systems work together. There is a tendency to cover up symptoms with drug prescriptions (e.g. for Candida) rather than permanent cures (e.g. diet and lifestyle changes).

Some of my holistic wellness websites include:

1. TAMAR Fitness Wellness includes fitness, beauty and wellness topics.
